Your appointment will focus on how your neck is affecting you day to day. I’ll look at things such as movement, stiffness, headaches, symptoms into the shoulder or arm, and whether activities like driving, desk work, training or sleeping seem to aggravate things.
I’ll then have a look at how your neck, upper back and shoulders are moving. Depending on your symptoms, I may also check things like strength, sensation or reflexes in the arms. This helps me work out what seems most relevant and whether osteopathy is a suitable option for you.
If anything makes me think you would be better having a medical opinion or further investigation first, I’ll explain that clearly and point you in the right direction.
If work, driving, training or long periods in one position are aggravating things, we can also look at practical ways to make those activities easier and gradually build movement or strength back up.
There isn’t a set number of appointments that everyone needs. Some people only need a few, while longer-standing problems may take more time. We’ll keep reviewing how you’re getting on and adjust things as needed.
